Gorthok has never been very good at following the rules. All he wants is to become a bartender at Club Asphodel, but when you’re a monster living in Orcusville, chasing your dreams isn’t exactly encouraged. And lately, Gorthok can’t shake the feeling that there’s something different about him. Something he can’t quite explain.

Missing his human pal, Gorthok decides to break the rules yet again and pay him a visit. But when he arrives, the boy is nowhere to be found. Instead, he discovers Mallory, an uptight perfectionist navigating menopause, with little patience for nonsense and even less room in her carefully controlled life for surprises. Especially big, blue, horned ones.

Mallory and Gorthok soon discover they have more in common than either expected. They’ve both spent their lives trying to fit into worlds that demand they be someone they’re not. And maybe they have just as much to learn from each other as they have to teach.

But monsters and humans aren’t supposed to fall in love. Their realms will never accept a relationship between them. And no matter how undeniable their connection becomes, some rules are meant to keep people apart.

Unless Gorthok decides he’s finally ready to break the biggest rule of all.
