Frequently asked

  • How long will it take to hear back about a submission?
If we request to read your manuscript, a confirmation email will be sent letting you know the file has been received. Please allow up to three months for us to review the material.
  • How should I format my manuscript?
We prefer Microsoft Word documents, but will accept PDFs, Pages, or Open Office documents. Use a standard font, 12-point type. Times New Roman, Arial, or Courier is acceptable. Double space the entire text and use 1" margins on all sides.
  • Will you review more than one manuscript from the same author?
We encourage you to submit multiple manuscripts but ask that you please submit each one separately.
  • Do I need an agent?
We accept both agented and unagented submissions, however, there is a separate process. Unagented authors may use the submission form while agents are encouraged to pitch to us directly.
  • Can I submit a book that has already been published?
Unfortunately, we cannot publish a book that has already been published either traditionally or independently. However, if you are an established author and have either had your rights reverted or you retained the majority of your subsidiary rights, our rights department would be happy to discuss further publishing opportunities with you.
  • Will my book be published in print?
Yes, all titles we acquire will be available in ebook and print formats and distributed to all major retailers and independent bookstores.
  • How are your authors paid?
Our standard royalty rate is 45% for ebooks and 35% for print, and in some instances authors will also receive an advance.
  • Will my manuscript be professionally edited?
While we encourage authors to submit their very best work, you will work closely with a developmental editor and copy editor to ensure your book is ready for publication. Our editors have over 15 years of experience in the publishing industry and have worked with New York Times, Amazon, Wall Street Journal, and USA Today best-selling authors.
  • Where will my books be sold?
Print books are available to the public wherever books are sold, including: our website, Barnes & Noble, Amazon, mass market retailers, specialty retailers, gift stores, and fine independent bookstores nationwide. Ebooks are available through the Apple ibookstore, Amazon Kindle, and the Barnes & Noble nook. Wholesale purchases can be made through contacting Ingram directly.
